WATERING YOUR GARDEN - How & Why You Should Harvest Rainwater from Your Roof & Gutters
Cheers hun for your advice. Very helpfull ❤
I’m in Idaho we are having extreme heat 99 degrees and then it drops to 78 my plants are very attention driven lol
Awesome, thanks for taking the time to share this with us.❤🥬
Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom! I tried the peat pots- found it’s not my favorite but tried it again because it’s suppose to be convenient. I will try more plastic- I was even thinking if deli lunch meat containers would work. I’ll have to try some of your plastic ideas! Thank you again!
Did you soak the seeds before planting ?
Great video, short and sweet. Thank you Valerie. What do you use to make holes for the vegetables?
Can I just pinch of the start of the seed heads?
I found that the roots could never really make it out of the biodegradable type seedling pots
I have little issue with growing carrots. I have clay heavy soil so I found I had to use Danvers and they do well.
thank you, i love these experiments
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Do you fill the raised beds that are really tall with all soil?
No, I fill with logs, sticks, and other organic materials about 2/3 of the way and then top with soil.
How do you stop the cardboard blowing away?
Ideally, I make my no-dig bed on a day that’s not windy. I also wet the cardboard which makes it heavier. If it is windy, I weight with bricks or rocks on the edges until I’m ready to add the soil. Hope this helps!
@@NowGardening thanks, yes it does.
Do the male Spinach go to the gym to build muscles?
That’s good 😂
My peppers have a lot of bugs in the soil not on the leaves i need help all 3 of them have this
If you can, I would recommend changing the soil. If you can’t, then you’ll need to determine what insects you have in order to treat them. I got flee beetles in garden bed at the end of last summer. No organic pesticide worked, so I finally had to abandon that bed and let winter kill off the insects for me.
@NowGardening Yeah I have no clue what they are tiny little orange looking things an tiny little white bugs. Nothing its on the leaves just the soil. An I think I even found some larve or little worm looking things. I just tossed the soild got more baked it to kill anything off fingers crossed it doesn't happen again
Awesome video! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you!
Thanks for watching 😊
I cut my cilantro right and the base and it never grew back
Hmm, that’s not normal. Maybe there were other environmental stressors that prevented it from regrowing? Drought, for example?
Have you tried using a shade cloth for them or is it just the humidity itself that causes them to wither that way?
With turnips, once the temps get to a certain point, they will start to push out of the soil and then turn bitter. A shade cloth can help for a short time, but it doesn’t save the day like it does with tomatoes. Hope that helps
I enjoyed your video on lettuce harvesting
I'm so glad!
This is such a great video, thank you!
You're so welcome!
In the US, you can use Dr. Bronner's Castile Soaps (or any castile soap without a lot of additives) in place of Black Soap. The peppermint one works quite well! A mix would be 1 quart or liter of water, and 1 Tablespoon of Dr. Bronner's soap. Some people add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint oil (pure essential oil, not a tincture) to make the mix work even better. You must shake the mix frequently though as we all know that oil and water don't mix well. The soap will cut the oil and allow it to mix with the water. By shaking it frequently you'll get a mix of the 3 items, so you won't have the peppermint oil just floating separately on the top of the liquid and not being sprayed.
Maybe someone already asked but where did you get the fish heads?
I either save them from when we cook them at home (my husband always gets whole fish) or I get them from our local market where there’s a fish stand. I simply ask them for the parts and they are more than happy to get rid of them.
Glad I found your channel. Now I know I am ready to cut my spinach and also how too!
Welcome! I hope you enjoy your harvest.
Excellent
Thank you
Some of my zucchini get 3 or 4 inches long with a nice flower on the end that never opens to be pollenated. They look health and green then start drying up without he flower ever opening.
Love the video! :)
Thank you!! So glad to hear that
Helianthus tuberosis and Chenopodium album are my faves, but turnips and black eyed peas are awesome too. Also, few grow them because they are insanely cheap at the store, but pinto beans are beasts in fresh ground. I have long hot summers.
I get aphids too on my pepper plants! I got into companion planting with specific flowers like merrigolds that attract ladybugs 🌱🌱💚💚
Peppers are really magnet for them. Glad you found a solution that works for you!
Hey, I had seedlings that are clearly stretched but are growing well. Can I repot them deeper even if they dont have roots on them like the tomato ones? I hope its not a problem
Such a fecund garden 😊
Thank you 😊
What is black soap?
It’s a soap made basically from potash and vegetable oil (used to be olive oil but it got too expensive). It’s often called savon noir. Not sure where you are, but In the U.S. the closest thing is Castile soap. Always buy a reputable brand and do a spot check because some plants don’t tolerate for these types of treatments.
Sometimes i bult purposely to harvest seeds
Smart idea
Fast and straight forward brilliant
Thank you
I am going to try your suggestion. I am in Los Angeles. I volunteer at a small model railroad and train museum. Which is actually someones backyard. They also have a small garden. The gentleman is French Canadian! So I find this aphid infestation. The 81 year old Canadian explained he didn't know what they were because he had only seen white aphids. That is what led me to research how to get rid of them. I will let you know how it is going. Too bad I couldn't post before and after photos.
That’s a fascinating story. What a great place to volunteer! I’m also glad the video was helpful. If you want to share before and after photos, feel free to tag me at Now Gardening on Facebook or on Instagram 😊 In any case, best of luck to you getting rid of the aphids!
I'm looking to chip planks from old pallets. Will this device be suitable or should I be looking for something else?
I can’t say, but I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s gotten jammed when I’ve tried other lightweight materials (like dried tomato plant stems, for example),
@@NowGardening Thanks for that. I think I'm coming to the conclusion that I'd have to saw up the planks into slimmer pieces before I use them in a garden shredder.
What kind of soil for leggy plants is best
Aphids haven’t shown up in the garden yet Hawaii zone12b but the spider mites have all over eggplant tomatoes potatoes and peppers ugh 😢 Glad to see you’re back your video are great short and to the point with good intro and recap.
Thank you for your encouragement. I’m sorry to hear you’re fighting spider mites. In my opinion, they might even be worse than aphids due to their sheer numbers! Wishing you the best
Thank You 🙏🏾
My pleasure 😊
Good to see you Valerie! ❤️ We have had a lot of problems this year with squash bugs! 🫤 Great video my friend.
Thank you, Barb💚 I’m sorry to hear you’ve been having squash bug problems-not fun to deal with those!
Well... I've planted roughly 17 marigolds so far and the birds have killed 11 so far along with several of my cucumber plants (literally pulled whole baby plants right out of the bed, it was crows), a few of my little corn babies and 4 of my bush beans. I've been having ant problems with my apple tree, blueberry bushes, blackberry bushes, camomile and calendula. It's one thing after another. Last year was awful for me with aphids and this year so far just isn't going well either between the birds and the ants.. aphids probably not far behind.
That sounds like a nightmare. Bugs are one things but crows are quite another! They are so darn smart and can undo a garden in no time. I haven’t had problem in my garden, but our local farmers have doubled their scarecrows and bird deterrents this year.
1 teaspoon of table salt, 1 teaspoon of dish soap in a small mister bottle, filled with water, spray the underside of leaves.
Thanks for sharing, Jimbo. Always good to have a Plan B 👍🏻
What zone are you in? You mentioned sowing in early March and where I’m at (zone 6) it recommends sowing after the last frost or right around it which is April 15th here. Just wondering because I bet I could sow a bit earlier
I’m in a zone 8 microclimate where our last frost is often end of April (for example, I can’t put out tomatoes until May). I have consistently sown cilantro the first week of February with great results. We don’t get snow/ice, though, so I’m can’t say how that would affect an early sowing.
Aphids, beetles, leaf minors, slugs, rabbits, squirrels, birds..... It's a never ending battle. Growing the plants is the easy part. Thank you for the tips 😁
That’s a rough selection. Sounds like my family back home in the US. They fight one thing after another year-round. It makes me feel a little guilty for complaining about aphids haha
@@NowGardening no feeling guilty lol you have some really bad infestations of aphids on the plants in the video. Have a great weekend 🌞
